AI as a new form of employee assistance and conflict resolution

I recently read this ABC article below about people using ChatGPT to talk through deep personal issues — pain, fear, relationships. The benefits described include that it’s accessible and helps people think more clearly and compassionately.

It got me thinking: how many people are using AI to work through workplace issues? Quietly. Privately. Maybe even more honestly than they would with their boss?

I tested this using AI by role playing both sides of a classic team conflict — a project leader under pressure to deliver on time and budget, and a team member waving red flags on scope and solution. Both got thoughtful, well-framed advice from AI… but wildly different.

Used in isolation, this advice could widen the gap between leader and member. But what if both people shared their AI conversations with each other? As a Coach, I encourage the use of AI as a catalyst for change. I have experienced it as a real accelerant of knowledge and growth.  So why not partner with it!

It provides a point of shared reflection and a starting point for real dialogue and a third perspective — less reactive, more constructive.

I don’t expect AI can resolve all conflicts but, as with coaching, it can help people show up more aware and prepared. Could this be the future of team dynamics?

Curious to hear from anyone exploring this space.
